The emphasis on English in education

The emphasis of English in university entrance exams appears to hold back many rural students in China. What should be the role of English in Chinese education? Should it receive more attention in rural areas in China, or is it time for Chinese universities to reconsider the emphasis on English? Perhaps it is time for the world learn Mandarin?

In cases like these, I think it is worth it to improve the English education in rural areas. However, it would be useless to give more English classes if the level of English of the teachers is low. Therefore, it would be useful to actively promote the level of English of teachers in China and, indeed, try to hire native English speaking people as teachers. It would be a good option to actively promote this position.
In addition to this, I think, the main level of English in Entrance exams could be lower but then the students with a lower level of English would need an opportunity (or something obligatory) to improve their English with extra English courses at the University (Free of Charge, as it would have to be part of the Education itself)
And, as the world consists of many Chinese speaking people, it is past time for the people to learn Mandarin Chinese.
I believe it all depends on the purpose of learning English. In many cases the high level achieved by learners is lowered once they begin working in environment in which many non-English-native speakers representing various levels of English have to communicate with each other. The level will automatically adjust. I believe students and parents should think what is the purpose of learning English and adjust the process accordingly.
Secondly, good effects are results of good courses – qualified teachers, appropriate materials and good teaching methodology as well as students’ hard work and possibility to practice the language, especially – speaking. Hiring English native speakers as teachers is an issue that requires reviewing, in my opinion. Being an English native speaker does not mean one is able to teach! You have to be prepared for such position. I am a graduate of English studies, I attended courses in methodology and although I do make mistakes as non-native, I could teach English. If you asked me to teach my native language – Polish, I would resign immediately – because I’m not trained. China should promote the position of teachers, but any qualified English teachers, not only English, American and Australian.
